Abstract
Nowadays, the internet is in many ways perceived to be an essential part of human life. It is fair to postulate that it is being used in the workplace, school and different homes across the globe. This is a clear indication that the internet continues to gain ground given that its popularity index has increased immensely. Thus, most children that are able to read used the tool to conduct distinctive school activities. However, with the immediate invention of the internet the global communities have changed in both positive and negative manners.
On the positive side, it is used to locate important information regardless of the period of time and also helps with other activities as online payment of bills which can be challenging when conducted traditionally. On the negative side, the use of the Internet has led to immense levels of abuse and misuse so that elements of addiction, loss of privacy and reduction in self-reliance capabilities are rampant amongst its users. Thus, this paper tries to examine the negative side of misusing the freedom which comes with the use of internet.
The Negative Side of Misusing Internet
According to Clinton (570-573), continual support of internet freedom amongst its users globally has led to the promotion of such societal vices as hacking, identity loss, and terrorism acts as well as children molestation through child-pornography. Furthermore, she continues to argue that the freedom to use the internet has resulted to the challenge of ensuring high levels of security and liberty amongst the US citizens. Security, in this manner, has led to the invocation of the freedom stipulated while using the tool. Misuse of the freedom to use the internet has been catapulted by such qualities as its ability to enhance openness, its leveling capacity as well as its reliable speed. This is perceived in the manner for which Twitter application was used by Egyptians to effectively execute revolutionary plans.

For instance, the tool has been able to subsume most of the human intellectual capabilities like the capacity to analyze and evaluate maps, clocks and calculations. The misuse of the internet is perceived extensively whenever it is able to absorb given mediums and re-create them in their own images. This is fairly expounded in the manner for which e-mail messages are able to direct one’s attention away from newspaper headings given the assumption that it infringes on the entire image.
The internet, as a model and tool of communication, has enabled a greater level of influence over people’s mode of thinking. Blog and Blogging Problem
In his article; “Why I Blog” Sullivan (152) identifies that continual use of blogs diminishes the art of journalism. This is depicted in the manner for which thinking becomes an impermanent expression given that blogging allows for spontaneous presentation of thoughts without the ability to remember in the near future. Moving forward, the author notes that continual blogging is a misuse to one’s capacity to write fairly meaning that the information provided to the readers over the blogs are marred with elements of error that are challenging to rectify with the passage of time. Blogging, over the internet, is perceived to be a disempowering tool for most writers. This is depicted by the numerous criticisms and personal attacks leveled against them in case of publishing error-prone texts. The author recognizes that the internet is used to destroy the true ambitions of journalists (Sullivan 160).
Apart from bloggers attacking each other over net threads of insults are created which thus, diminishes the production capability of blogs. Thus, bloggers are exposed to the risk of immediate extinction due to fewer errors being made in the course of writing. It should be noted that unlike writing a book, effective blogging calls for immediate release of one’s thoughts, to the already stretched public, without having the chance to address previous errors (Sullivan 161).
For this reason, their immediate efforts to rectify the errors are met with rejection and constant abuse from people who cannot be reached. This forms the basis upon which potential online journalists become prey for internet scammers as they relegate from the blogging activity as a whole. Vast levels of competition amongst bloggers have created a platform upon which they can fight for the few readers available thus making the internet a battlefield rather than a base for gathering relevant knowledge and other skills.
Social Media
With the advent of Facebook, the element of privacy was threatened and the risk of panic amongst users intensified. According to Clive (583) continual use of Facebook by users and with respect to posting pictures, statuses as well as providing confidential personal information is made it easier for one to be located and identified with easiness.
However, with the complete improvisation of the application to include news-feed feature made it riskier as users became exposed in the manner for which their lives revolved. Clive (585-587) states that with the addition of news-feed into the Facebook application managed to cause panic amongst its users since the level of confidentiality was reduced to none.
Continual use of Twitter and Facebook leads to immense levels of addiction which means that one needs to be online all the time in order to ascertain the activities of their immediate friends. Sometimes one follows the activities of strangers and thus misusing time that could otherwise been used in doing constructive matter. Eltahawy (164) argues that the internet has made people eavesdrop of the private affairs of other people without their knowledge or consent in that matter.
Summary
To sum up, continual use of internet and without any form of control leads to such vices as infringement of children rights, identity thefts, loss of privacy amongst its users and exposure to personal threats and abuse. It is also stated that persistent use of internet leads to immediate diminishing of intellectual brain capacities.
