Its shrewdness in war technology enables the US Air Force to respond to external security threats within the shortest time possible. Combat experience forms the basis of the US Air Force’s competitive advantage (Tirpak, 2011). Over the years, the US has participated in major wars, which involved air attacks on the enemies. For this reason, the US Air Force has various documentaries, which it can rely on to develop attack strategies on its enemies. Besides, the US Air Force has a large number of veteran soldiers, who it relies on to pass air-attack skills to new and young Air Force officers. This has enabled to it always have well-skilled and prepared personnel to conduct defense activities of different magnitude and from different locations.

However, one of the greatest weaknesses of the US Air Force is the inability to control costs (Tirpak, 2011). Studies indicate that the US Air Force spends a lot of money on manufacturing and maintaining its warplanes. Given the current situation of the global economy, spending a lot of money on manufacturing and maintaining warplanes can be uneconomical given that other important sectors of the economy such as the health and education sectors are running at a deficit. In addition, the US Air Force lacks short take-off aircraft (Tirpak, 2011). This is a weakness because in many cases, its personnel uses big aircraft when conducting small security assessments and other routine activities. This contributes to the increased operational costs. The US Air Force can increase its efficiency in terms of costs by manufacturing small take-off aircraft for use by its officers in their routine activities as opposed to using big aircraft.


In this module, I have learned how to conduct an internal assessment of an organization, to determine its strengths and weaknesses. I have learned that all organizations have certain advantages and disadvantages, which affect their ability to meet the needs of their target markets. These advantages are termed as an organization’s strengths, while the disadvantages are termed an organization’s weaknesses. Internal analysis helps an organization maximize its strengths while minimizing its weaknesses. Besides, the module has enabled me to understand that not only do profit-oriented organizations face challenges in their internal environment, but non-profit-oriented and government-controlled organizations also face these challenges.
